The best options to get any type of personal loan or finance is either to apply for a low cost credit card and pay it off as fast as you can. Alternatively get a balance transfer loan first load your other debts onto your first card then apply for a low interest transfer balance credit card and then pay this off as fast as you can. This can save you easily 25% or higher in interest charges annually.
The second option is to start saving with a credit union. Credit unions typically provide their members with far lower interest rates on loans than many finance companies. Credit unions also invest in New Zealanders the profits aren’t shipped off overseas. If your not already a member of a Credit Union you can also try your local bank.
Lending options to stay away from are any company that provides you a loan with Ge Money or Pawn Brokers. The internet is full of horror stories of people who have taken out finance with Ge Money only to be shafted. You can read a number of these complaints via here Ge Money Credit Scam and why I strongly recommend avoiding this company at all costs. You will find as others already have that even in New Zealand this company is already getting up to the same tricks they have done elsewhere in the world and our Government agencies and ministers seem happy to turn a blind eye.
What ever you decide to do when it comes to getting a Personal Loan try and support a New Zealand company so the profits stay and are used in New Zealand shop around for the best deal and consider the terms carefully. What looks like the best option short term may end up costing you a serious amount more over the long term.
